The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

American Bitcoin is attractive fundamentally because it combines industry-low mining costs with disciplined Bitcoin accumulation, allowing the company to add BTC to its balance sheet at a discount to market while preserving strong margins. In 2Q26, its all-in cash cost was about $43.9K per BTC mined, roughly 34% below the peer average, while it mined a record 932 BTC and held about 8,300 BTC, with sats per share nearly doubling to 10,989 in 2Q26. Its 25 EH/s fleet, ~14.1 J/TH efficiency, asset-light Hut 8 partnership, and commitment to mining rather than diverting capital to AI/HPC position it to gain share as ~74 EH/s of listed miner capacity comes offline.

Bear case

American Bitcoin is exposed to a highly volatile, commodity-like earnings stream that depends on Bitcoin price, network hash growth, and power costs, all of which can quickly compress margins and book value. Although it has roughly 25 EH/s at 14.1 J/TH and industry-leading direct production costs near $36.5k per BTC mined in 2Q26, reported results remain fragile, with $306.1M of fair-value losses on digital assets driving a TTM net loss of $194.9M. Its ~8,300 BTC reserve and ~5,210 unencumbered BTC provide balance sheet support, but future equity raises, pledged Bitcoin, and older idle miners that appear uneconomic at current hash prices heighten dilution, refinancing, and obsolescence risk.
