The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

Atlas Energy Solutions is well positioned by its 100% Permian-focused asset base, with sand reserves in Winkler and Ward Counties and operations near Kermit and Monahans supporting industry-leading supply economics in the basin driving lower-48 growth. Its logistics platform is demonstrating scale and execution, with a quarterly Dune Express record and 6 MMT of last-mile shipments in 2Q26, while added load-out lines in 2H26 should ease bottlenecks and support margin recovery from 16% in 2Q26 to a forecast 15% in 3Q26. The company also has an expanding power growth option, with projected 3Q26 EBITDA of $17.6MM and 115 MW of oil-and-gas customer power, plus a 2GW deployment ambition by about 2030 underpinned by existing Caterpillar agreements and contracts.

Bear case

Atlas Energy Solutions is facing a weaker fundamental backdrop because its 3Q26 estimates were cut, with EBITDA/CFPS lowered 11%/11% to $34MM/$0.20 and opex raised 6% to $13.25/ton, while 5.4 million tons of sand and $17.12/ton pricing still sit below 2Q26 actuals. The company also posted adjusted EBITDA of $28MM, revenue of $265.6MM, and free cash flow of -$10.3MM, underscoring limited near-term cash generation as Permian sand and trucking rates remain soft. In addition, commodity-price sensitivity, potential regulatory constraints tied to the dunes sagebrush lizard review, and execution risk around the Kermit Plant, Dune Express, and autonomous truck conversion could pressure margins and demand.
