The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

Almonty Indus is favored because its tungsten strategy is increasingly anchored by long-duration, take-or-pay contracts that convert project optionality into visible cash flow, including the Sangdong Phase I amendment that extends the term from 15 to 21 years, lifts contracted volume to 4.41M MTU, and adds at least $30M of annual revenue at current prices. The Los Santos tailings deal with WBH further strengthens the outlook by securing a minimum of about 1,720 tonnes of contained WO3, a conditional $3M upfront payment, and a downstream outlet for a material inventory that could exceed the committed minimum by a wide margin. With Panasqueira already producing and shipping tungsten concentrate, plus Sangdong, Valtreixal, Gentung-Browns Lake, and Rwanda broadening the growth pipeline, the company has multiple monetization pathways in a market where tungsten prices are already near record levels.

Bear case

Almonty Indus is viewed negatively because its earnings and cash flow remain highly exposed to volatile tungsten pricing, while the company is still dependent on execution-heavy projects that can face supply chain disruptions, equipment issues, weather delays, and commissioning setbacks. Funding risk is also material, as additional debt or equity will likely be needed for expansion, and the company generated little cash flow from operating activities YTD 2026, leaving debt service and near-term liquidity vulnerable if ramp-up at Sangdong slips. Its multi-currency structure adds further risk, with output priced in USD but operations tied to EUR, KRW, and CAD, while competitive pressures and potential new market entrants could weigh on pricing and margins.
