The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

Aemetis is viewed favorably because it is showing tangible operating momentum, with fiscal Q2 2026 revenue of $63 million, up from $52 million year over year, while EPS of $(0.16) also beat expectations, and gross margin, operating income, and EBITDA reportedly improved meaningfully. Its long-term value case is reinforced by progress across all four key initiatives, especially the biogas business, which has expanded to 15 dairies with 40 miles of pipeline installed and more than 50 dairy agreements signed, plus the India business rebounding to $11 million in Q1 from $1 million in Q4 2025. The outlook also benefits from potentially important catalysts such as year-round E15 approval, CARB dairy digester RNG pathway approval, and Section 45Z tax credits extended to 2029, which could help a business that is still early in its profitability journey.

Bear case

Aemetis is viewed negatively because its repeated long-term revenue goals have been pushed back from 2025 to 2026 for $1 billion and from 2027 to 2028 for $2 billion, suggesting execution has not kept pace with prior investor presentations. The company also remains highly leveraged, with only about $1 million to $5 million in cash against $533 million to $546 million in debt, leaving limited liquidity and substantial refinancing or operating risk. Despite these ambitions, recent results still showed net losses of $11 million and $22 million, while estimates were cut to $270 million of revenue and $(1.12) EPS in 2026, underscoring weak near-term fundamentals.
