The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

AST SpaceMobile is supported by a differentiated space-based cellular broadband model that works directly with standard mobile devices, giving it a compelling path to monetize the large unmet demand created by terrestrial coverage gaps. Its operating outlook is strengthened by constructive 2026 guidance, improving backlog and revenue building blocks, newly signed government contracts that should contribute in 2026, and stable satellite manufacturing cost trends, even as sequential FCF burn remains a near-term pressure. With commercial service ramping toward roughly 45 satellites in orbit by early 2027, revenue visibility extending to at least a lower bound of about $500 million for 2027, and a view that revenue could potentially reach $1 billion, the company appears positioned for both scale and margin leverage.

Bear case

AST SpaceMobile is burdened by execution risk, with launch delays, supply chain bottlenecks, spectrum interference, and regulatory approvals all threatening the pace of its BlueBird constellation deployment and direct-to-device service rollout. Financially, the company remains deeply cash-intensive, posting 2Q26 sales of $31.5m, adj. EBITDA of -$19m, and FCF burn of -$695m, while higher launch capex and a 1-time conversion loss tied to a launch failure further weaken visibility. Even as government mix may support future growth, the outlook is pressured by cost inflation, potential dilutive capital raises, and the possibility that commercial adoption and profitability arrive later than expected.
