The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

Azenta is positioned favorably because its Sample Management Solutions franchise should continue to benefit from outsourcing trends, while Multiomics offers an additional growth lever if execution improves. Management and the analyst view both center on revenue growth improving into the mid-single digits, alongside continued margin expansion that could drive stronger adjusted EBITDA and earnings over the next few years. Even after F2Q26 revenue and adjusted EBITDA missed consensus due to softer North America Multiomics and constrained capital demand, the company’s balance sheet and free cash flow profile are seen as limiting downside while leaving room for faster profitability.

Bear case

Azenta is facing a clear fundamental slowdown as both segments missed consensus, with revenue of $145M, adjusted EBITDA of $8M versus $17M expected, and adjusted EPS of ($0.04) versus $0.12, while organic revenue fell 3% year over year. Management also cut FY26 organic revenue growth guidance to (2%)-1% and lowered adjusted EBITDA margin guidance to down 125-0 bps, implying roughly 10%-11%, reflecting weaker demand in automated and cryo stores and softer North America Multiomics activity. The outlook stays negative because guidance was reduced after a one-time $3M consulting expense, the long-range plan was pushed from FY28 to FY29, and lowered FY26E/FY27E revenue and EPS estimates signal limited near-term operating leverage.
