The case for and against

Updated Jul 28, 2026

Bull case

BCB Bancorp is expected to see margin expansion in the next few quarters due to lower total cost of funds and the maturation of wholesale funding with a higher rate. While 1Q26 EPS beat expectations due to decreased expenses and provisioning, there is still caution due to the clean-up of classified loans and elevated NCOs. However, with plans to sell their cannabis-related OREO property and confidence in their expense management, there is hope for continued improvement.

Bear case

BCB Bancorp is facing numerous risks that could potentially hinder their ability to reach their targets, such as missed growth and profitability expectations, credit concerns highlighted by the recent large loss and elevated non-accrual loan levels, and the need to dispose of loans in an effort to improve asset quality. Despite trading at a deep discount to their tangible book value per share, the stock is expected to have a year of flat balance sheet growth and requires more asset quality progress before any positive outlook can be given.
