The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

Blend Labs is well positioned as a trusted software vendor to roughly 300 U.S. banks and credit unions, with a particular focus on the top 1,000 financial institutions that want AI adoption but prefer proven partners over untested native vendors. Its Blend Platform already powers the full origination workflow for mortgages, consumer loans, and deposits, and Autopilot could expand monetization by enabling proactive, AI-driven offers while also improving internal productivity, as shown by higher engineer output and more pull requests. Financially, the case is supported by 2027E valuation metrics of 3.6x EV/revenue and 16x EV/FCF, alongside Haveli’s $150M investment in 2024 and additional share purchases that signal confidence in the company’s strategic direction.

Bear case

Blend Labs is facing a fragile fundamental setup because its revenue remains concentrated in mortgage and mortgage-adjacent activity, leaving results highly exposed to elevated mortgage rates, higher-for-longer policy, and weaker loan volumes. 2Q guidance underscored that pressure, with revenue of $32.0M-$34.0M versus $35.3M expected and non-GAAP operating income of $5.5M-$6.5M, while economic value per funded loan is projected to fall to $79-$80, signaling softer monetization despite volume growth. Although cost cuts and a smaller workforce have improved efficiency, the business still competes in a fragmented digital-lending market and faces cyclical FI customer risk, limiting confidence in durable growth.
