The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

Bank7 is well positioned because it combines top-tier profitability, benign credit quality, and strong balance-sheet growth, as shown by 3Q ROA of 2.24%, ROTCE of 16.4%, and EOP loan/deposit growth of +9%/+20% LQA. Its asset-sensitive balance sheet, with 91% of earning assets repricing in under one year, should benefit from higher rates and support NII expansion despite recent core NIM compression to 4.38%. The pending Century acquisition adds a low-cost deposit base, expected 25%+ EPS accretion, and at least 75%-80% of targeted cost saves soon after closing, reinforcing long-term earnings power and capital rebuilding.

Bear case

Bank7 is facing a weaker fundamental setup because loan momentum has been inconsistent: EOP loans rose 9% LQA in 3Q, but average loans fell 1% LQ and management still guided to only MSD-to-low-DD growth amid elevated payoffs and funding constraints. Core funding also looks uneven, with average core deposits down 1% LQ in 3Q and core deposits ex-CDs down 3% LQ in 2Q, even as Century is expected to add $1.2B of core deposits at a low 1.01% cost. The outlook is further pressured by explicit risks around sustained energy price weakness, credit deterioration in energy, construction, hospitality, and agriculture, higher operating expenses, and potential deal risk from the Century acquisition.
