The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

Celldex Therapeutics is supported by barzolvolimab’s strong Phase 3 EMBARQ-CSU1 and EMBARQ-CSU2 results, where both studies met primary and key secondary endpoints and produced complete response rates of 42% to 46% at Week 12, deepening to 45% to 54% by Week 24. Physicians overwhelmingly viewed the therapy as more effective than current advanced options, with 81% calling it somewhat or much more effective, while the safety profile remained broadly consistent with prior data and showed only two probable anaphylaxis cases among more than 2,400 treated patients, a low incidence of about 0.08%. The company also has multiple upcoming catalysts, including Week 52 extension data, a 2027 BLA submission plan, and ongoing development in atopic dermatitis, cold urticaria, and symptomatic dermographism, supporting a differentiated mast-cell platform with meaningful commercial potential.

Bear case

Celldex Therapeutics is viewed negatively because its valuation depends heavily on barzolvolimab, a single clinical-stage asset, leaving the stock exposed to any setback in efficacy, safety, manufacturing, or approval. Despite encouraging data, anaphylaxis, payer step-edits, first-line access, and competitive pressure in chronic spontaneous urticaria, chronic inducible urticaria, and atopic dermatitis could all slow adoption or limit differentiation, while recruiting delays may push clinical results later than expected. The company also faces meaningful regulatory and funding risk, and if trials are inconclusive or capital becomes scarce, its broader pipeline cannot yet offset the concentration risk embedded in the current model.
