The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

Crane is fundamentally attractive because its aerospace and advanced technologies segment benefits from robust OEM build rates, strong military demand, and a high degree of sole-sourced content that supports durable pricing power and backlog visibility. Its process flow technologies business adds stability through mission-critical water, wastewater, nuclear, cryogenics, pharma, and power exposure, while the $240M U.S. Pump acquisition should deepen recurring service demand and be accretive within year one of ownership. Financially, Crane produced about $2.3 billion in revenue in 2025, generated roughly $363M of adjusted free cash flow with 99% conversion, and has expanded operating margins from about 12% in 2021 to 19% in 2025, underscoring strong execution and disciplined capital deployment.

Bear case

Crane is facing a negative setup because its results remain exposed to demand, manufacturing, and supply chain disruptions, while aerospace performance depends heavily on Boeing’s ability to ramp MAX output without further interruptions. The company also faces pronounced cyclical risk in process flow technologies, and margin pressure from raw material inflation in steel, aluminum, iron, and copper if pricing and productivity cannot fully offset costs. Although Crane generated about $2.3 billion in revenue in 2025 and maintains $955 million in liquidity with 1.4x net leverage, operating profit and revenue can still be pressured by a stronger U.S. dollar and execution risk around integrating recent acquisitions.
