The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

Corteva is well positioned by its attractive valuation, trading around 6.5x-6.7x EV/EBITDA and implying roughly a 10% unlevered FCF yield, while ending 2026 with an expected $0.5B net cash position that supports buybacks and M&A. Its outlook is anchored by a solid pipeline, strong biologics franchise, and new products expected to add about $800M in annual revenues by 2029 versus 2026, alongside another $200M of cost savings that could lift EBITDA toward the top of management’s $1.45B-$1.65B target. Growth is further supported by improving farmer economics and a geographically diversified crop protection business, with North America generating nearly 40% of revenue and Latin America over 30%, giving the company multiple channels for earnings expansion.

Bear case

Corteva is facing a weak fundamental setup because crop chemicals remain under persistent deflationary and generic pressure, with management itself assuming a 1% annual price decline during the 2027-2029 period and the market still expected to decline 4-5% in 2026. Its narrower post-spin product portfolio may reduce negotiating leverage with large customers, especially in Brazil, while weaker farm economics, softer crop prices, and destocking threaten demand for crop protection and seed inputs. Although the company could still generate about $400M in post-dividend FCF in 2027 and buy back shares, legal settlement outflows and the risk of slower pipeline monetization or poor capital deployment leave the downside case intact.
