The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Everus Construction Group is viewed positively because its record backlog of $4.55B, up 53% y/y in 2Q26, provides unusually strong visibility, while management expects about 80% to convert within 12 months and data centers remain the largest backlog component. Its Electrical & Mechanical segment is benefiting from robust data center demand, a ramp in semiconductor work, and improving profitability, with 2Q26 marking the company’s first 10%+ EBITDA margin quarter and consolidated 2025 EBITDA margin at 8.5%. Growth is further supported by accretive M&A, including SE&M and the pending Epsilon acquisition, which expand geographic reach, modular capabilities, and margin potential while leaving leverage at about 0.8x pro forma, comfortably below the 1.5x-2.0x target range.

Bear case

Everus Construction Group is viewed negatively because its E&M margins remain below peers, with a cost-plus/fixed-price mix that likely limits meaningful structural expansion even as larger projects and M&A may help at the margin. Its T&D segment has only muted growth because 50%-60% of revenue comes from multi-year MSAs not reflected in backlog, which also caps margin upside in inflationary periods, while selectivity on large transmission projects may leave it underexposed to stronger utility spending trends. The stock also faces material concentration and execution risk, as the top 10 customers accounted for 43% of 2025 revenues, one customer was ~17%, and complex projects spanning design through construction can create delays, overruns, and reputational damage.
