The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

Gen Digital is well-positioned to compound value because its direct-to-consumer model, recognizable brands like Norton, Avast, and LifeLock, and deeper international reach from Avast have strengthened customer acquisition and broadened its consumer cyber-safety platform. The company’s outlook is further supported by revenue and cost synergies from MoneyLion, increased direct marketing, better retention, and continued ARPU growth, with revenue expected to ramp to the mid-single digits and operating margins potentially reaching 60%+ over FY/25–27. Recent execution has reinforced that view, as the business reached $5B in revenue in FY/26, posted 11% adjusted revenue growth and 19% EPS growth, and entered FY/27 with 8-10% proforma revenue growth and 13-17% EPS growth guidance.

Bear case

Gen Digital is viewed negatively because the stock’s near-term catalyst profile is weak: unsubstantiated GoDaddy acquisition chatter triggered a drop of as much as 7% and shares are down about 17% over the last five days, while YTD performance is -6% versus the IGV’s +5%. The fundamental concern is that a potentially transformational M&A deal could intensify leverage, integration risk, and debt expense just as the company still faces churn risk, macro pressure, and the need to spend continually to acquire and retain members. Although management expects FY/27 organic revenue growth to reach the mid-single digits with operating margins above 60% and non-GAAP EPS growth of 12–15%, those benefits may be offset by slowing member additions, lower retention, lower ARPU, and a valuation multiple rerating.
