The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

G-III Apparel Group is attractive because its owned brands are increasingly carrying the business, with Donna Karan, DKNY, Karl Lagerfeld, and Vilebrequin all showing strong momentum, while owned brands now represent over 60% of revenue. The company also appears to be improving its earnings quality, as 1Q27 revenue of $536 million beat expectations, adjusted gross margin rose to 45.7%, inventory fell 8% y/y, and cash ended at $394 million, signaling disciplined execution and healthy liquidity. Despite the roughly $1 billion revenue hit from the PVH license takebacks, the strategic shift toward higher-margin owned brands, plus the Marc Jacobs opportunity and expected FY27 gross margin expansion of about 410 basis points, supports a constructive long-term outlook.

Bear case

G-III Apparel Group is facing a negative fundamental setup because its profitability remains vulnerable to tariffs, gross margin pressure, and poor SG&A discipline, any of which could materially weaken earnings quality. The company also still has to prove it can complete its transformation and replace lost PVH revenues, a key execution risk for a business that derives most of its revenue from Wholesale operations. Although the stock trades around 12.5x to 13.8x FY28 EPS, one of the lower valuations in its peer group, the downside risks from a weakening macroeconomic environment, increased tariffs, and brand-growth uncertainty justify the cautious outlook.
