The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

Helios Technologies is viewed positively because 1Q26 showed a strong beat driven by better-than-expected demand, 23% core sales growth, and about 310 bps of EBITDA margin expansion to 20.4%, with adj. EPS of $0.80 topping estimates. The outlook is further supported by raised 2026 guidance for about 8% core growth and roughly $2.88 in adj. EPS, plus 12 consecutive months of double-digit order growth, backlog up double digits, and strength in both Hydraulics and Electronics. Its transition from a specialized component supplier to a diversified subsystem and system provider, along with effective tariff mitigation, improving short-cycle end markets, and attractive inorganic growth potential, supports a favorable fundamental view.

Bear case

Helios Technologies is exposed to a weak cyclical profile because its Hydraulics segment depends on end markets that can contract during economic downswings, while global GDP growth below assumptions, weak construction markets, and adverse regional conditions could further pressure demand. Its Electronics business, though diversified by the Enovation acquisition, is still facing customer rationalizations, limiting the offset to Hydraulics and leaving the company vulnerable to uneven revenue trends across segments. Competitive pressure is also substantial, as Hydraulics must contend with larger full-line rivals with greater financial resources and lower-cost overseas producers, alongside commodity price risk and intense competition that can compress margins.
