The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

Hewlett Packard is viewed positively because its Cloud/AI server business is benefiting from agentic and inference-AI demand, with F3Q26 sales up 25% and traditional server orders up 75%, while a $3.5 billion hyperscaler deal adds visibility. Networking is becoming a much larger profit engine after Juniper, with management lifting FY27E growth to high-teens to low-20% and targeting $800 million of annual run-rate cost synergies by the end of FY28E. Stronger margins, a raised FCF outlook of $5.0 billion+ for F2027E, and a commitment to return at least 75% of FCF to shareholders support the bullish fundamental case.

Bear case

Hewlett Packard is exposed to meaningful execution risk from the Juniper merger, and any integration missteps could distract management while undermining the scaled Networking and Hardware platform thesis. Rising memory costs, freight and shipping inflation, and intense competition may compress margins if HPE cannot fully pass through higher expenses, weakening profitability despite its edge-to-cloud positioning. While the company is expected to generate double-digit EPS growth with cost synergies, free cash flow, and buybacks, those benefits may be offset if a macro downturn slows enterprise demand and delays realization of the nearly 40% non-GAAP operating income contribution from Networking in FY27E.
