The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

Huron Consulting Gr is well positioned because its Healthcare segment addresses non-discretionary demand created by higher operating costs, workforce constraints, and reimbursement pressure, with its proprietary benchmark data and outcome-based contracts helping clients at low-single-digit margins improve cash flow and profitability. Its growth case is further strengthened by a still-underpenetrated Higher Education market, expanding AI-related projects that management says are not being disintermediated, and a Commercial business benefiting from integrated offerings, higher win rates, and mid-20s margins in revenue cycle managed services. Financially, the company posted $443.7 million of revenue and $50.6 million of adjusted EBITDA in FY1Q26, reaffirmed full-year 2026 revenue of $1.78 billion to $1.86 billion and adjusted EBITDA margin of 14.5% to 15.0%, while the June 3 RelateCare acquisition adds to its healthcare growth runway.

Bear case

Huron Consulting Gr is under pressure because the year-to-date sell-off has compressed its EV/NTM EBITDA multiple to 9.9x from 14.3x at the beginning of 2026, signaling weaker investor confidence. Operating income margin of 8.2% and $36.6 million in income missed the Street’s 8.9% and $38.9 million estimate as revenue-generating professionals rose 13% from acquisitions and hiring, while cash flow from operations deteriorated to ($162.2) million from ($106.8) million. Although Healthcare margin held at 28.4% and Education improved to 21.6%, ongoing macro volatility could prevent CY24 revenue growth improvement from materializing, leaving fundamentals fragile.
