The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

Kodiak Gas Services is positioned for durable growth because its core Contract Services business is benefiting from high 98.2% fleet utilization, 4.5% pricing increases, and long lead times above 180 weeks, while about 50% of 2027 deliveries are already contracted. Strong 2Q26 results and a raised 2026 Adjusted EBITDA outlook to $820MM-$860MM, plus forecasts for $847MM in 2026 and $987MM in 2027, support confidence that margin expansion and multi-year visibility are translating into steady cash flow growth. The outlook is further reinforced by a 3.1x leverage ratio, disciplined capital deployment, and a growing power pipeline of ~2GW with targeted 15%+ unlevered returns and 10-15 year contracts.

Bear case

Kodiak Gas Services is viewed negatively because its growth profile appears increasingly constrained by dependence on commodity-driven drilling and compression demand, with downside cases assuming no growth from compression infrastructure after 2028 and weaker cash flow from lower pricing and utilization. Its revenue base is also concentrated and vulnerable: in 2025, one customer represented more than 10% of total revenues and the four largest customers were 32%, while customer vertical integration could erode demand for its fleet services. Geographically, heavy exposure to the Permian and Eagle Ford Basins, plus climate-related scrutiny and limits to electrification or dual-drive adoption, amplify execution and demand risk.
