The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

LENZ Therapeutics is viewed positively because VIZZ combines a differentiated aceclidine, pupil-selective mechanism with up to 10 hours of durability, a tolerability profile that appears superior to pilocarpine-based alternatives, and real-world prescription momentum that reached approximately 46K filled prescriptions across over 10K unique ECP prescribers through 1Q26. The launch is being amplified by a DTC campaign, a telehealth prescribing channel, and an expanding sales force from 88 to 117 territories, all of which should improve access and deepen adoption over the coming quarters. Additional upside comes from ex-US expansion through partnerships in Australia, New Zealand, and Greater China, where the NDA has been submitted and approval is anticipated in 1Q27.

Bear case

LENZ Therapeutics is facing a negative outlook because even after the telehealth launch and national TV campaign, the company still had to rely on new commercial tactics to address slower-than-expected ECP integration and access barriers, signaling that organic demand has been weaker than hoped. Although weekly Symphony prescriptions by mail-order rose 94% to 1,427 from 736 and July volumes improved, the analyst still lowered peak U.S. VIZZ revenue estimates to $165.4M from $268.8M, implying a much smaller commercialization opportunity than initially expected. The company’s $220.0M cash balance and reduced SG&A to $39.4M help near-term liquidity, but the $1.02 EPS loss, restructuring and impairment costs, and explicit risks around capital needs and commercialization keep the fundamental profile fragile.
