The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Lucky Strike is supported by a differentiated, asset-light experiential entertainment model that can expand margins through higher-margin food, beverage, and event spending, while its Lucky Strike rebranding strategy is already lifting performance at newer locations and broadening the premium concept to 110 locations, or about 30% of the total, by FY3Q26. The company also has meaningful scale in a fragmented market, operating 368 locations as of May 2026 with more than 80% of the industry still in independent or small-chain hands, creating an ongoing consolidation runway and sourcing advantage. Although leverage is elevated near 5x, management’s focus on free cash flow, real estate flexibility, and potential operating improvements in FY1Q and across waterparks supports a constructive outlook, even as near-term macro uncertainty weighs on corporate and consumer spend.

Bear case

Lucky Strike is pressured by a mix of legal, reputational, and operational risks that cloud the investment case, including the class-action lawsuit filed in May and repeated media criticism of lane quality, pricing, and string pinsetting accuracy. The business also remains highly exposed to discretionary leisure spending, with recession risk, weaker younger consumers, and lower corporate event demand likely to hit a customer base that management has been trying to diversify beyond bowling through capital-intensive acquisitions. Fundamental valuation support is limited by elevated leverage, stagnant same-store sales, and concentrated ownership, while shares already trade at 7.3x 2027E consensus EBITDA, a discount that appears justified rather than cheap.
