The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Nordson is attractive because its growth is being driven by broad-based strength across all three segments, with ATS standing out due to a 31% organic sales increase, record quarterly sales, and strong demand tied to semiconductor and AI-related buildouts. The company’s FY26 outlook was raised to $3.04B-$3.08B in sales and $11.80-$12.00 in adjusted EPS, supported by 35% Y/Y backlog growth, healthy order momentum, and a sound balance sheet with 1.7x net leverage. Its recurring aftermarket exposure, diversified end markets, and strong free cash flow conversion above 100% suggest durable earnings quality and room for buybacks or M&A.

Bear case

Nordson is viewed negatively because its short-cycle businesses and limited backlog visibility leave earnings vulnerable to abrupt swings in orders and revenue, making quarterly results harder to predict versus consensus. The ATS segment adds another layer of risk because it depends on major product launch cycles, AI and next-generation technology adoption, automotive builds, and customer capital spending, so any demand slowdown or project pushout can quickly pressure valuation. In addition, roughly 70% of sales occur outside the United States, leaving the company highly exposed to FX volatility, where a 1% currency move can translate into about a 2% to 2.5% EPS impact, while COVID-19-related supply chain and spending hesitance remain an overhang.
