The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

Nkarta is viewed favorably because the April 2026 trial amendments meaningfully improve enrollment economics by reducing monitoring burden, enabling outpatient dosing, broadening access to community rheumatology centers, and allowing re-dosing, all of which should accelerate Ntrust-1/2 execution. The company also has a differentiated allogeneic CAR-NK platform with scalable sourcing, engineering, and manufacturing advantages, while early competitive and precedent data in lupus nephritis, SLE, and systemic sclerosis support proof-of-concept for NKX019 and its potential as a quicker-to-market asset. With initial Ntrust-1/2 data expected at an as-yet-unspecified 2026 medical meeting and emphasis on 6+ patients at the highest 4B cells/dose with 3+ months of follow-up, the setup appears to de-risk the broader story and supports the Buy view.

Bear case

Nkarta is viewed cautiously because 2Q26 operating expenses rose 40% sequentially to $43.1M and exceeded estimates, while EPS of ($0.54) underscores continued losses and weak operating leverage. Although the company ended 2Q26 with $243.2M in cash and equivalents, spending is still expected to total $148.3M in 2026 and the runway depends on continued clinical execution without clear commercial offset. Its outlook remains pressured by early-stage programs in Phase I or preclinical development, no FDA or EMA-approved NK cell therapies to validate the space, and intense competition from other cellular therapy developers.
