The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Nutanix is well positioned because its platform has expanded from hyperconverged infrastructure into external storage, unstructured data, DBaaS, Kubernetes, and AI-ready hybrid multicloud control, making workloads more portable and reducing re-architecture risk for customers. The investment case is reinforced by strong execution: ARR accelerated to 16%, NNARR reached $114M, total RPO rose 28% to $3.4B, and Q4 sales grew 16% to $757M, showing durable demand despite supply chain constraints. Demand is further supported by VMware displacement, partner-led wins, and FY/27 guidance for 12% revenue growth, 24.5% operating margin, and 28% FCF margin, suggesting both growth and profitability are compounding.

Bear case

Nutanix is facing a deteriorating fundamental setup because its growth depends on sustaining strong Revenue, ACV billings, ARR, and contract duration, yet management already noted lower-than-expected billings duration and a quarter in which more ARR was recognized than revenue due to a one-year US federal deal. The competitive backdrop is also unfavorable, with numerous vendors in self-managed software and SaaS creating market confusion, while Amazon, Google, and Microsoft intensify pressure and can slow customer decisions, renewals, and new logo wins. On top of that, the company’s history of operating losses, exposure to hardware supply chain issues, and vulnerability to weaker tech spending or negative macro sentiment support a cautious view on margins and valuation.
