The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Nextpower is viewed favorably because it combines a leading global tracker franchise with a backlog above $5B, about $1B in net cash, and multi-year U.S. revenue visibility from safe harboring that reduces policy risk. Its outlook is further strengthened by international growth, where it holds roughly 35% share and is expanding into Europe, India, the Middle East, Africa, and Brazil, while acquisitions like Zimmermann and Prevalon broaden the addressable market into fixed-tilt, power conversion, and battery storage. The company’s shift toward bundled structural, electrical, software, and service offerings should lift revenue per GW from about $0.10/W to roughly $0.30/W, improve margins through higher-margin non-tracker revenue, and support estimates above consensus for FY27 and FY30.

Bear case

Nextpower is exposed to a fragile mix of policy and execution risk: 45X credits contributed $47–82M per quarter to EBITDA in FY2026, and any IRA/FEOC change could hit both direct credit economics and future solar demand. Its aggressive diversification into roughly 10 acquisitions in 18 months, plus entry into crowded power conversion and BESS markets, has lifted R&D expense 77% YoY and total opex 51% YoY in Q4 FY2026, raising integration and margin pressure. Although tracker leadership and a 1,400+ patent portfolio support scale, the business still faces steel, tariff, FX, and elevated rate exposure that can compress margins and blunt growth.
