The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

Blue Owl Technology is supported by a strong earnings and credit profile, with 2Q26 adjusted NII per share of $0.33, total investment income of $338 million, and a $0.40 dividend that was covered by recurring income. Its portfolio remains large and improving, at $14.68 billion with a 9.4% weighted average total yield, new-investment spreads of 530 bps, and only 0.6% of investments on non-accrual, underscoring disciplined underwriting and healthy asset performance. The outlook is further strengthened by about $2 billion of available liquidity, leverage near 0.93x, the end of pre-IPO lockup selling pressure, and meaningful embedded upside from equity holdings in high-growth technology names.

Bear case

Blue Owl Technology is facing a negative setup because its quarter showed weaker-than-expected investment income of $326mn, a smaller portfolio of $14.07bn versus estimates, and NAV per share slipping to $16.49 as credit spread widening drove most of the decline. Although non-accruals remain low at 0.3% on an amortized cost basis, the firm is seeing softer originations, higher paydowns, and rising software LTVs to 40%, which point to tighter credit cushions and less room for error. At the same time, management is selectively pulling back on new software deals amid AI disruption risks, while ROE may stay below peers near term and leverage, interest-rate, and market-dislocation risks could further pressure returns.
