The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

PAR Technology is positioned for improving fundamentals as recent multi-product wins go live, management targets low- to mid-teens FY26 ARR growth and expects acceleration into 2H FY26 and FY27, while its AI initiatives and expanded pipeline support additional upside. The company’s 2Q26 results reinforced that view, with total ARR of $338.0 million up 18% year over year, organic ARR up 12%, and adjusted EBITDA of $14.3 million beating estimates while margins expanded by 580 bps in 2Q. With subscription-led revenue, 100% attach for new customers, and a favorable mix shift plus cost actions, PAR has a credible path toward significantly higher EBITDA and the “Rule of 40.”

Bear case

PAR Technology is exposed to several fundamental weaknesses that support a negative outlook, including stalled growth risk in a weaker macro backdrop, loss of a major customer to a competitor such as TOST, and intense competition that could drive pricing pressure and market-share erosion. Three large chain customers account for about 30% of annual revenue, so any contract loss could materially disrupt growth, while reliance on third-party manufacturers leaves the hardware business vulnerable to supply-chain and chip shortages that could delay deliveries. The company also faces international and geopolitical spending risks, and if organic ARR growth falls short of mid-teens in FY26E due to delayed Burger King and Papa John's installations, valuation could compress sharply.
