The case for and against

Updated Aug 18, 2026

Bull case

Quad/Graphics is uniquely positioned to capitalize on the fragmented printing market due to its comprehensive end-to-end marketing service offerings, strong customer relationships, and partnerships with major companies. Additionally, the company's recent focus on data and AI integration further differentiates it from competitors and sets it up for future growth. Despite industry headwinds, the company's strong financials and reduced leverage ratio make it an attractive investment opportunity.

Bear case

Quad/Graphics is facing several fundamental issues that are likely to drag down its financial performance in the near future. These include competition in its primary markets, dependence on technology and AI, cybersecurity and data privacy risks, and a potential decline in demand for printing services. Additionally, the company's heavy reliance on its U.S. print and related services segment and potential economic and client budget sensitivity make it vulnerable to economic downturns. The company's efforts to transform into a broader marketing experience (MX) model and its high level of debt also pose risks to its profitability and financial flexibility. Its family control and dual-class share structure may also lead to potential conflicts of interest and limit the company's ability to take actions that are in the best interest of all shareholders. Considering all of these factors, the stock's current valuation at a sub-4x EV multiple seems justifiable, and we have a negative outlook on the stock's near-term performance.
