The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

uniQure is supported by a compelling regulatory reset in Huntington’s disease, as the FDA now appears willing to accept the 3-year Phase I/II data for a 3Q26 BLA and potentially review it under an accelerated-approval framework without sham surgery control. The clinical package is still imperfect, but the totality of evidence points to meaningful slowing of disease progression across multiple endpoints and time points, while the company’s plan for a ~200-patient confirmatory study reduces ethical and operational friction. Fundamentally, the investment case is reinforced by a durable gene-therapy platform, first/best-in-class Hemophilia B attributes, early mTLE signals, and a large initial HD opportunity of about 6,000 eligible patients on day one.

Bear case

uniQure is burdened by a high-risk, clinical-stage profile in which value depends heavily on unproven programs such as AMT-130, AMT-260, AMT-162, and AMT-191, while commercialization risk for HEMGENIX remains elevated. Regulatory uncertainty, intellectual property risk, trial execution issues across HD, SOD1, TLE, and Fabry, and the possibility of a safety signal or failure to show sustained efficacy all threaten the pipeline’s conversion into durable cash flows. Even with a modeled total firm value of approximately $5.5 billion and a 12% discount rate, the path to monetization is pushed into the 2030s, leaving the stock exposed to dilution, reimbursement pressure, and competition from PFE, IONS, and WVE.
