The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

Range Resources is well positioned because its 2Q26 results showed stronger-than-expected operating leverage, with adjusted EPS/CFPS of $0.79/$1.41, EBITDA of $349MM, and free cash flow of $111MM, while production rose to 2.296 Bcfepd. The company’s outlook is reinforced by unchanged 2026 production and capex guidance of 2.35-2.40 Bcfepd and $650MM-$700MM, improved differential guidance, and disciplined capital allocation that returned 92% of 2Q26 FCF through buybacks and a fixed dividend. Longer term, management’s plan for 2027 growth to 2.60 Bcfepd, along with record drilling and completion efficiency and new gas marketing opportunities, supports confidence that Range can grow volumes while keeping reinvestment needs manageable.

Bear case

Range Resources is exposed to a weak fundamental setup because its earnings are highly dependent on natural gas pricing, yet it is unhedged in 2025 and beyond, leaving cash flow and EBITDA vulnerable if LNG-driven demand does not strengthen prices. Although net debt of $834MM and net debt-to-EBITDA of 0.5x at 3/31/26 suggest balance-sheet discipline, leverage is not enough to offset risks from inflationary service costs, regulatory constraints, and execution delays in third-party midstream and LNG capacity. Its NGL premium is also expected to contract from $4.41 in 1Q26 to about $1.88 in 2Q26, while reserve productivity and rising export capacity could further pressure realized margins.
