The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

SolarEdge Technologies is viewed positively because its core solar business is showing stronger revenue and margin growth from operational improvements, the Nexis platform rollout, and rising BESS attach rates, supported by $3.3 billion of safe harbor commitments and upside to more than $5 billion with BESS. The company’s residential and C&I franchises also benefit from differentiated products, a lower-cost single-SKU design, and improving market share, including about 57% U.S. C&I share in 2Q26 and strong European demand with Nexis production fully booked. Beyond core solar, its SST opportunity adds long-term optionality, with management targeting pilots in 2027, modest sales beginning in 2028, and a large ramp in 2029 tied to a rapidly expanding 800V DC TAM and >35% gross margins.

Bear case

SolarEdge Technologies is facing a fundamentally weak setup because its U.S. residential business remains under pressure, with 1Q26 revenue down 20% QoQ and 2Q26 permits down 31% YoY and 26% in 1H26 versus 1H25, pointing to delayed demand recovery after the 25D expiration and tax-equity funding delays. Its competitive position is also deteriorating, as market share fell to 22.3% in 1Q26 from 25.0% in 4Q25, while management must still prove it can monetize inventory and 45X credits in a pricing-pressure environment. Although domestic manufacturing and possible inverter restrictions could help, the path to profitability remains elongated, and the company still carries meaningful uncertainty from policy-dependent demand, weaker C&I outlook, and execution risk.
