The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

Solstice Advanced Mat is well positioned because its core refrigerants franchise benefits from a powerful regulatory transition away from HFCs toward low-GWP HFOs, with HFO mix rising from 27% of stationary refrigerants sales in 2022 to about 60% in 2025 and ~80% longer-term. Its differentiated electronics, healthcare packaging, and defense materials should also capture secular demand from advanced computing, semiconductor purity requirements, and resilient safety end markets, while the nuclear business adds scarcity value as the only U.S. uranium conversion provider with a ~$2.2B backlog and long-term contracts. With net debt/EBITDA at 1.3x at the end of Q2:26, a ~25% EBITDA margin guide, and a recently announced $500MM buyback program, the balance sheet and capital return profile further support a constructive outlook.

Bear case

Solstice Advanced Mat is unattractive because its core growth drivers face multiple policy, regulatory, and demand risks, from slower low-GWP refrigerant adoption to potential delays in nuclear expansion and data-center-related demand. Despite its unique U.S. UF6 conversion position and roughly 30% of global conversion supply outside Russia and China, that advantage is offset by heavy exposure to regulatory approvals, the Metropolis facility, and possible liquidated damages, decommissioning, and legacy environmental costs. Financially, the business is also vulnerable to margin pressure from wet fluorspar and other inputs, with about 43% of 2025 sales outside the U.S. and another 14% exported, leaving results exposed to FX, tariffs, cyclicality, and weaker industrial and construction demand.
