The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

Solventum is attractive because its simplified portfolio after the HIS separation leaves a clearer, more focused operating base where MedSurg now drives roughly 64% of revenue and Dental and HIS each contribute 18%, making execution easier to evaluate and margin expansion more visible. The company has already shown strong underlying demand, with 2Q26 revenue of $2.209B, 9.5% organic growth, and adj. EPS of $2.55, while management still sees 4%–5% organic growth, a 9% CAGR in adj. EPS, and more than $1B in FY27 FCF as separation costs roll off. Fundamental upside also comes from underpenetrated MedSurg categories like NPWT and advanced wound care, Acera Surgical’s early contribution, and mix-rich Dental growth supported by new products and SKU rationalization.

Bear case

Solventum is viewed negatively because its growth outlook appears modest relative to peers, with FY26 organic revenue growth guided to just 2.5% to 3.0% and roughly 3.5% to 4.0% excluding SKU exit impact, while the business remains concentrated in medsurg at about 64% of revenue. The company also faces execution risk as it works through separation of its HIS segment, and downside could stem from slower operating margin expansion, higher competition, and rising interest expense if rates remain elevated. Although management raised FY26 EPS to $7.10 to $7.20 and adjusted operating margin to 22.2% to 22.7%, the stock still screens as a lower-growth story versus peers trading at about 16.8x P/E.
