The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

Savers Value Village is benefiting from strong underlying demand, with Q1 revenue of $403.2M rising 8.9% year over year and comps up 3.5%, led by U.S. comp growth of 6.4% and improving basket and transaction trends. Management also raised the low end of 2026 guidance, lifting midpoint estimates for revenue to $1.77-$1.79M, adj. EPS to $0.47-$0.53, and adj. EBITDA to $265-$275M, while noting early 2H momentum and disciplined share repurchases of 1.2M shares in Q2. The long-term case is reinforced by Thrift IQ, which is already in about 15% of the footprint and is helping stores improve gross profit dollars, speed new-store profitability, and support a return to high-teens EBITDA margins through 2027-2029.

Bear case

Savers Value Village is facing a fundamentally challenging setup because competition, execution risk on new openings, weaker consumer spending, and macroeconomic softness could pressure both traffic and profitability. Management-specific and supply-side risks also matter, since the company depends on maintaining donated item flow from non-profit partners and avoiding disruption from the loss of key management. Even with FY26 EPS estimated at $0.51, FY27 EPS at $0.59, and adj. EBITDA of about $265 million in FY26 and $300 million in FY27, the outlook remains cautious given flat Canada comps and only mid- to high-single-digit U.S. comp durability.
