The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Stryker is viewed as a core MedTech holding with a durable moat, supported by category leadership in orthopedic robotics, operating room equipment, and a broad portfolio that has consistently gained share across higher-growth end markets. The company is expected to deliver high-end MedTech sales growth, 30 bps-plus operating margin expansion, double-digit EPS growth, and strong free cash flow, while FY26 organic sales guidance of 8.0%-9.5% and adjusted diluted EPS of $14.90-$15.10 underscore resilient fundamentals despite a cyberattack-related 1Q disruption. Its ability to outpace underlying orthopedic market growth by 200-300 bps in FY26, backed by new product launches, rising implant utilization, international expansion, and ongoing M&A, supports a positive long-term outlook.

Bear case

Stryker is facing a softer near-term fundamental setup as seasonal slowdowns in elective procedures, persistent Peripheral Vascular supply constraints, and Europe-driven Joint Replacement weakness are pressuring 3Q26 performance and dragging 2026 organic revenue growth to 8.3%, the low end of guidance. Management’s inability to quantify the impact, combined with a cyberattack that materially hit 1Q26, creates execution risk around FY26 EPS of $14.96 near the bottom of the $14.95-$15.10 range, while continued softness in Hips and Knees is especially concerning given Europe’s outsized impact. Longer term, rising competition in orthopedic robotics, slower adoption in the ASC setting, and uncertainty around M&A conversion weaken confidence in Stryker’s ability to sustain premium growth and defend margins.
