The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

WSFS Financial is attractive because its Wealth & Trust franchise is driving durable, high-margin fee growth, with investment management and fiduciary revenues up 36% annualized q/q and 25% y/y, while also generating strong noninterest-bearing deposit inflows that improve funding quality. Core earnings momentum is reinforced by a stable 1Q26 NIM of 3.83%, effective management of deposit betas into the high 40%s, and a strong 1Q26 core EPS of $1.68 versus $1.50 consensus, reflecting strength in NII, fees, and expenses. The balance sheet and capital return profile also look compelling, as deposits grew 19% LQA, loans remained stable with constructive C&I pipelines, CET1 was 13.9%, and buybacks plus a 19% remaining authorization support double-digit EPS growth potential.

Bear case

WSFS Financial is viewed negatively because its core credit metrics, while recently better, still show fragility: NPAs rose 22% q/q to 0.40% of assets and 0.66% of loans plus OREO, concentrated in two well-secured C&I and multifamily credits, even as NCOs improved to -0.11% and FY2026 guidance was lowered to 25–35bp from 35–45bp. The outlook is also pressured by structural earnings risks, including interest-rate sensitivity, regulatory and capital constraints, and the possibility of a deeper recession that would raise credit losses and compress net interest revenue. Cash Connect adds another drag, with fees already declining q/q from lower rates and volumes, and further weakness expected through 2027, while wealth revenues remain exposed to softer equity markets.
