The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

Astera Labs is favored because its core connectivity chips sit in the critical path of AI and cloud infrastructure, where higher data movement requirements are expanding demand across Aries, Taurus, Scorpio, and Leo. The company’s 1Q26 results showed revenue of $308.4M, up 14% Q/Q and 93% Y/Y, with non-GAAP gross margin of 76.4% and EPS of $0.61, while 1Q26 guidance of $360M midpoint and $0.69 EPS signals continued momentum. The outlook is further strengthened by Scorpio-X beginning initial production shipments and ramping toward 2H26 volume, expanding hyperscaler adoption, and supporting a large addressable opportunity with industry-leading margins and sticky design wins.

Bear case

Astera Labs is viewed cautiously because revenue remains concentrated among a handful of hyperscalers, neo-clouds, and GPU vendors, with the AWS warrant agreement reinforcing customer concentration risk even as diversification is improving. The company also faces margin pressure, as gross margin declined quarter over quarter due to product mix and could remain uneven despite likely sequential operating margin improvement offset by higher operating expenses. Its scale-up switching and optics opportunities may not earn much investor credit near term amid elevated expectations and intensifying competition from Broadcom, Marvell, and Credo, while weaker cloud capex or slower AI spending would further pressure growth and returns.
