Bull case
Equillium is attractive because its lead asset EQ504 targets a clinically validated AhR pathway in ulcerative colitis with strong mechanistic support from 4 studies, 12 ex vivo assays, 1 intestinal organoid assay, and 1 murine model, all pointing to barrier protection and anti-inflammatory effects. The thesis is further strengthened by differentiated design features—colon-targeted delivery, high potency, and selectivity—which aim to improve safety versus more systemically absorbed or less selective AhR agents, while still addressing a large ~180K US patient population and multiple treatment settings. EQ302 adds optionality as a wholly owned oral IL-15/21 inhibitor, and Teva’s positive Phase 2a celiac data plus argenx’s $2.2 billion IL-15 transaction support the mechanism, but EQ504 remains the primary value driver with Phase 1 initiation on-track for mid-2026 and biomarker data in 2Q27E.
