The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Oracle is attractive fundamentally because its differentiated full-stack AI platform combines leading databases, enterprise applications, developer tools, and cloud infrastructure, positioning it to capture more AI-driven enterprise workloads. Strong execution is evident in 30% constant-currency revenue growth, OCI growth of 120%, gross margin of 61.0%, operating margin of 42.1%, and RPO rising to about $664B, while infrastructure revenue is expected to scale from $18B in FY26 to $82B in FY28. Although Oracle remains free cash flow negative and levered with $125B of debt and $37B of cash, the combination of sticky database share, accelerating capacity buildout, and major bookings momentum supports a positive long-term outlook.

Bear case

Oracle is vulnerable to a mix of execution, competitive, and macro risks that make its transition to cloud computing and AI infrastructure less certain than headline growth suggests. Although 1Q revenue of $19.3b rose 30% cc and Total Cloud revenue grew 61% cc, the business still faces margin pressure as database revenue shifts from upfront licenses to ratable subscriptions and as cloud gross margins must scale aggressively to support operating leverage. The stock also depends on large, multi-year contracts, capacity delivery, and renewed IT spending, while hyperscale cloud rivals, regulatory exposure around TikTok, and key-person risk tied to Larry Ellison could all impair growth and increase volatility.
