The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Insulet is supported by a differentiated tubeless Omnipod platform that has already reached more than 600,000 insulin-dependent patients worldwide, with 2Q revenue rising 23% to $801.7 million and adjusted EPS of $1.66, both ahead of expectations. Its investment case is further strengthened by a durable distribution model, expanding international momentum, and operating leverage, as shown by a 72.9% gross margin and 19.3% operating margin, while management still targets more than 30% adjusted EPS growth in 2026 and over $1 billion of R&D over the next three years. While U.S. growth may slow and newer tubeless entrants could pressure share, the company’s market leadership, product roadmap through 2028, and ability to keep growing in Type 2 diabetes support a constructive long-term outlook.

Bear case

Insulet is facing a weakened fundamental setup because U.S. Omnipod growth is decelerating, with 2Q revenue of $801.7M still accompanied by a cut to full-year U.S. growth guidance to 17%-19% from 20%-22%, reflecting softer utilization and retention in the Type 2 population. Management’s credibility has also been damaged by mixed 2027 messaging, two recalls/field actions, and a softer stance on the Nov. long-range plan, while intensifying tubeless competition in '27+ threatens to weigh on the multiple further. Although the company has more than 600,000 users worldwide and international growth remains a support, nearly 98% of revenue comes from Omnipod, leaving the stock exposed to execution missteps, product concentration risk, and margin pressure.
